Question:
What is the benefit of working a government job? Is it a pension, and
security? I'm wondering if I should try to get a government job. Does
anyone here work for the good ole usa?

Now that is a nice benefit. Most of my friends who began working for the
US government at the same time I did are retired now. Of course, most of
them don't have a 9 year old child at this point in their lives either.
> security
Except during RIF's, of course. Or if your job is not protected by civil
service law. The Republicans came in, and many Democrats found
themselves out of a job.
> tolerance of disability
> flexibility
Interesting you should say that. The one thing I found most intolerable
about working for the US government was all the damn rules. I think my 2
jobs with the US government were in the top three as far as
"inflexibility" that I've ever had. Of course, one of my jobs was
working for the Army, and I expected all the rules there. (The other
inflexible job was for a much too anal insurance company.)
I have much more flexibility now that I am self employed. And, I find
that a big perk.

> lower wages in lieu of excellent perks (vacaton, sick leave,
guaranted raises
Except when the government decides to "freeze" wages, like they did when
I worked for SSA during the 70's.
