I am about to start looking for a job for this summer. I am looking
for any advice, etc. that anyone who has already done this might have
for me. I'll mostly be looking in the Atlanta/Chicago markets.

Chicago's a tough market for 1Ls. I did the typical mass mailing to
Chicago, about 30, and got 1 response. However, I never did the
interview because I managed to get more interviews in another city
and thought that one of them would pan out. None of them did, and
I ended up working for free. Ouch. Of the big firms, I think that
Sidley, Jenner, and Winston hire 1Ls. Two Stanford 1Ls (now 2Ls) worked
for Sidley last summer, and girlfriend of friend who was a Northwestern
1L worked for Jenner. At most law schools, getting a 1L firm job is
the exception rather than the rule. Best bet: work any connections
you might have.
