Meeting with Potential Members, Funding Institutions, Banks
The Council
members have met informally with various potential members and funding
institutions. For example, we have presented WASMB to the Singaporean
Ambassador Lawrence Anderson and the First Secretary Mitchel Lee, former
Cambodian Ambassador to the United States Roland Eng, Chairman of the Garment
Manufacturers Association of Cambodia and CAMFEBA, Mr. Van Sou Ieng, Senior
Technical Advisor for the International Trade Center David Van, UNDP Gender/SME
specialist Wisal Hin, Karla and Lili of MPDF, Thida Khus Executive Director of
Silaka, Dara Khuon of Getaway Travel, Sapors Rendall, lawyer Mealy Sok, lawyer
Rethkunthea Ouk, Melissa Kwee President of UNIFEM Singapore etc.
On February 14,
President Porlim attended a workshop conducted by ILO on labor and SMEs.On February 28, President Porlim attended a meeting of CAMFEBA whereby Mr. Van
Sou Ieng introduced WASMB to the gathering of employers association.
On February 28, Secretary Porleng attended the French-Cambodian Chamber of
Commerce at Hotel Le Royal, where she is the Treasurer.On February 28, the four Council members met over drinks and dinner with
Ambassador-at-Large and former Ambassador to the US, Roland Eng and Senior
Technical Advisor for the International Trade Center David Van.
In the morning of March 3, four Council members will meet UNDP Gender/SME
specialist Wisal Hin to discuss further UNDP's involvement.For lunch on March 3, four Council members will meet with attorney Mealy Khieu,
an attorney, to discuss her potential membership and the involvement of WASMB at
the Ministry of Commerce-sponspored upcoming Trade Fair & Expo.
In the morning of March 4, four Council members will
meet with Assistant to the Minister of Women's
Affairs, Tonette Tokura, to discuss further the
partnership opportunities between the Ministry and
WASMB.On the afternoon of March 4, four Council members will meet with Singaporean
Ambassador Lawrence Anderson and First Secretary Mitchel Lee formally to present
WASMB. From this meeting, we received several contacts in Singapore; we are in
communication with them.
President Porlim met with a representative of Canadia Bank to discuss
micro-financing procedures.Of potential members, the Council members have presented WASMB individually to
Princess Marie Norodom Ranariddh of Sobbhana, Denise Lauwens of Coca-Cola,
Lesine of LBL Construction Co. Ltd. over dinner, Dara Khuon of Get Away Travel &
Tours, Sapors Rendall of Sapors Beauty Salon, Thida Khus of Silaka, Romyda Keth
of Ambre etc.
The Council has convened several meetings with potential core members. At one
of the meeting, generously hosted by Nina You at her house, the group decided on
the logo for WASMB.Mr. Visal Sok of Bates Advertising generously gave of his time and talent and
created the current logo that WASMB now has.
Members met again at the Angkor Beer factory for a brainstorming session, to
discuss goals and activities for WASMB. Many ideas raised during this
brainstorming session reaffirmed the direction WASMB has already been taken, and
gave us new ideas for upcoming activities.
1.6 Fair, Conferences and Associations
WASMB's booth/stand at the Cambodia Expo and Export 2005 at the Cambodiana Hotel
(March 24-27) generated a lot of inquiries. Moreover, at the invitation of MOC
Secretary of State Sok Siphana, WASMB made a half-hour presentation at the Expo;
HE Sok Siphana chaired this session. On March 22, President Porlim attended yet
another training conducted by the ILO, the Bipartite Council, while Theary (in
her individual capacity) attended a 4-day 33rd Williamsburg Conference in Siem
Reap sponsored by the Asia Society and its local partner CICP where she made
mentioned of WASMB at every given informal opportunity to the distinguished
delegates.At the invitation of MOC Secretary of State Sok Siphana, Theary attended the
launching of the WTO Booklet at Le Royal.
David Van, of the International Trade Center Project, invited WASMB (Porlim,
Theary) to participate in the Trademap / Productmap Seminar whereby we received
certificates. Porlim and Theary were joined by member Monivann Kaing on the
last day of the seminar.Sub-regional launch of the “Unleashing Entrepreneurship – Making Business Work
for the Poor” Report of the Commission on the Private Sector and Development for
East Asian countries. Vice-President Theary attended this April 21-22
conference in Manila of the Philippines, part of a 13-country delegation.
President Porlim and Theary attended the Government-Private Sector Forum, held
at the Ministry of Economy & Finance, April 26, 2005.Theary attended a conference at Sunway Hotel on National Export Strategy Paper,
jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and ITC.
