Question:
I have MBA from US Top 10 school. Am relocating to Canada, prefer
Toronto but not tied. Any tips for resources for job search - looking
for marketing, management, business development, no industry
preference.
Answer:
-Do you have any US experience? If you have none, your MBA could potentially
hinder your job search somewhat for a Canaidan company most likely won't
hire any new immigrants to high level management positions and you're
overqualified for a lot of jobs
- Info on the Canadian market/MBA comps/industry: MacLeans magazine
or the Globe & Mail newspapers weekly Report on Business magazine
recently did a survey on Canadian MBA programs that had all sorts of
metrics you might find useful - average entry-level salaries for diff
schools, where they went, etc. There are also books available on
Canadian headhunting firms, and the top (TSE 300) Canadian firms with
profiles and HR contact info
Job Hunting: The market is tough. Try not to show up here without
a job, or at least several interviews line up. In certain niches,
there are jobs available. A good headhunter is key, esp. for you,
since you have the "central casting" resume (i.e., 3 yrs IB + top 10
MBA + 2 yrs mgmt consulting). If you are serious about re-locating
long-term into a higher tax, lower compensation, falling purchasing
power (long term FX rate trend) environment, contact me off-line, and
I could suggest a headhunter or two that specializes in corp.
finance/consulting.
