Moron test for local government

Question:
Try this.

Call your local city planner and tell them that you've got an idea to start your own business and you are looking for a place to locate it. You might be surprised by the response, as I was.

There are a few who might show some limited interest, but certainly none will roll out the red carpet for ya, and some even sound more discouraging than optomistic. And this really led me to wonder why, in a period when almost all of our manufacturing has gone down the toilet, nobody at city hall gives a rats ass about saving one single bit of it.

It seems that they would like to really clean house and get rid of all our heavy industry. Anybody got any ideas why this would be ?

I really got the impression from speaking to people at city hall that would would rather not bother hearing about any plans for any new businesses in their various municipalities. It really seems that this theory of capitalism is just a phony, fake, invented - bullshit piece of fiction which is used to somehow create a smokescreen for all the various frauds which are the true foundation of our economy. Somebody tell me it aint that way - please !!

Anybody got any experience here ? Is government the enemy of small business ? Is it all just one big game of payola ? Or does capitalism really exist ?

Answer:
-I wont say what it was - because that would be too much information. But I will say that it was something which any community would ordinarily consider an asset, and a fascinating trade which produces beautiful works. Non toxic, recycling / EPA friendly, and rather uncommon.

Now, even if it were a ski slope in Florida, who's business would that be ? The government can say "NO SKI SLOPES ALLOWED !" ??? They just dictate according to their whims ? This is really insane - more crazy than I ever suspected them of. Now, I knew that government was completely fucked up all along, but never did I realize that they would DISCOURAGE economic development. This does not piss me off nearly as much as it really fascinates me. I think that I am the point of amazement, and I'm well into that realm that you would ordinarily reserve for encounters with aliens from deep space.

I think I'll turn this into a sort of study, we'll just title this thing "How fucked up your government really is - scary, aint it.". We'll make this my doctoral dissertation for alt.prisons. We'll take a survey by contacting as many local government officials as possible, expressing interest in setting up shop in their municipality. We'll rate each one at how they respond, and do a statistical analysis of our results. Each one will be judged by the extent to which they express welcome toward of a new business in their community. Then, we'll compare those statistics to the levels of crime and per capita incarceration by municipality.

-, I used to hear alot of blacks talking about how the system is trying to "keep you down" etc etc etc, and I never really believed it much.

But now, after having seen how various beaurocrats are truly anti-development it seems that there may be some truth to it. I'm still quite astonished by all this, because it seems like you'd have a lot less problems in Mexico, Canada, Malaysia, China, and maybe even Europe.

It is very easy to see why jobs have been pouring out of the country. There is tremendous competition, labor is cheaper elsewhere, and your government dosent care if there are any jobs or not. The modern way of thinking is that we can all work in offices or just sit on welfare and not raelly do anything productive. This seems to be government policy. Amazing.

I know of one community which has made a lot of developments recently, all through a federal grant. Lets face it - this is just welfare from the feds. There is no reason why a community should not be able to foot the entire bill for such developments. If they cant afford it, then they need to increase their tax base by encouraging economic activity and small business. If they cant do that, then they become a ghost town and everybody moves out in search of better jobs elsewhere.

It is really starting to look as if prisons are just a throttle for the economy, a place to put people after you've torn down their factory to build a golf course.
