Question:
Recently we finally got our case approved, so now we can move to Oz! I
immediately started a job search while we are still here in US. But here is
what I got as a response from one of the recruiters in Australia:
Unfortunately we are unable to put you forward for any of the positions
advertised until you are residing within Australia. Once you have arrived in
Australia please do not hesitate to give us a call, so that we can match you
to any suitable employment opportunities we are handling at the time.
We wish you well in your search for a new career.
Does anybody knows about this restriction? Is it a legal issue? Or this guy
is just being an a.. hole?
Answer:
-Even with Australian citizenship or PR it's very difficult to find a
job from overseas. Usually recruiters want to see someone in person,
before sending them to interviews. Secondly, employers usually want
someone who is available to them straight away, not a few months down
the line. So it's not a legal issue, more a practical one.
There are exceptions to these rules if one has a trade or profession
in exceptionally high demand - nurses, and some tradesmen come to mind
- but the response you received is the usual one.
-I don't think he's being an a..hole. Plans change, perhaps it'll take
you longer to come than you're planning... some people just "window
shop" on career sites.
Don't take it personally
