Question:
I live in california and its getting so damned expensive.. Im thinking of
leaving the state. I've found a few very cheap places in Missouri. I found a
4/1 brand new house, 2600sq ft, on 10 acs. with a HUGE brand new barn, huge
arena, round pen, wash racks, ect for $50k. I'm wondering how cheap it is to
live in Missouri. Are there any jobs, specifically Nursing jobs? Anywhere to
look for, city wise? What's the weather like? Feed prices?
All these questions also pertain to the other states I'm going to be searching
for: Idaho, Arizona (besides that it's deathly hot!), and Iowa. I would be
taking my horses with me when, or if I, moved. What are hay prices like in
all the states i've listed? Hay prices where i'm at vary, between $9-12/bale,
so its really expensive.
Does anyone have any websites they can send me to, to learn more? Thanks all
to those of you that can help me... I really want to learn more so I can leave
this stinkin state!!
Answer:
-In Idaho, you have two climate zones. One will be over 100o virtually every
day for 4 months out of the year, mud the rest, with winters getting to 20o
below. The other zone will start snowing in October and clear off by June,
getting to 50-60o below. there is one two lane highway that crosses the
state N-S, that will be closed by slides large parts of the winter. A
freeway crosses E-W. If you live anywhere nice, count on driving at least 40
miles to do your grocery shopping. Wages are the lowest in the country. The
biggest employer in the state just laid off half it's work force.
Real estate prices have been doubling every 3-5 years for the last 20.
Sounds like you found a good deal in Missouri.
-Up around Flagstaff, AZ they don't get that horrible heat. I don't know about
jobs or anything else down there, but you might check that area out.
I left California in '89 with bells on. It got too crowded.
