Question:
I would like to know what the DC Job Market is like. My
exprience for the last 8 years has been in the area of
Information and Network security. Currently I live in Michigan
would love to move to the DC Metro area. I am a US citizen
but do not have any TS clearances. Are there any jobs for my
skills in the Civil/Public (non-military) sector organizations?
Answer:
-You claim to have 8 years experience in "information and network
security" and the best way you can think of to research this topic is by
asking dc.general? This does not speak well to your IT skills.
Look at monsterboard.com and dc.jobs for listings, look at the salary
surveys available from Computerworld and its ilk, look at Craigslist for
job search times, and use personal contacts. You should also research
the clearance structure as it is clear you are unfamiliar with it, and
look into the CISSP. The CISSP is crap, but anyone claiming to do IT
security work should have it.
There are plenty of jobs available if you have a good skillset.
- but you'll probably find the time to secure a position long.
Many people have been looking for an IT position with similar skills
for up to a year.
