Job market in TX?

Question:
I am a Swedish engineer who's planning to move to Texas in the beginning of next year. Before I go it would be great to get some input on how the job market is over there. What is a realistic expectation of how long time it will take me to get a job? What salary level should I expect? In which part of TX (which city) would I have the best possibilities? Which other US states have good opportunities. How important is age when your looking for a job is it difficult after 40?

I am 39 years old and hold an M.S. in Mech. Eng. (from a Swedish University)I have also done graduate studies in Materials Engineering at the U of Houston. My career has involved mostly engine testing and materials lab work. My current title is "Senior Research Engineer, Tribology".

Answer:
So let me suggest that you contact the placement office at the U. of Houston. It's their job to help former students with the job market.

BTW, I spent 5 years in graduate school at Rice U, across town from the U of H, and I do enjoy visiting Houston occasionally to see how things have changed (but NEVER between May and October!)
