Question:
I saw the assitance you were giving someone else, and thought I would
try this again.
I will be graduating in May with a Masters and BS in Accounting, along
with a BSBA in Economics. I have been actively searching for jobs
since the previous September, but with no luck. I have actively used
both my campus career center as well as advisor to search for jobs. I
have utilized multiple job search companies on the web, including
resume distribution services and the governmental job postings, with
no luck. I am primarily searching in the Kansas City Metro area, but
have had no luck. I have also looked in the St. Louis and Minneapolis
areas. I would prefer to stay in those three areas, but am def.
willing to relocate to other areas. I've been told I'm overqualified
for positions, received no response to job applications, and received
follow ups saying that even though job postings are listed, they
really are not open.
Can anyone provide some assitance in regards to my search, perhaps
through information of openings, possible alternatives to what I am
currently doing, or maybe some new ideas?
Answer:
Have you tried the Federal, State and County job postings yet?
Have you looked at the educational and nonprofit?
Have you looked into a student membership in the Missouri State
Association of CPAs (or what ever it is called), using it as a place to
build personal relationships to get a job?
"a fellow told me" tale: Years ago, he graduated and couldn't get a
job, so he started his own bookkeeping and tax practice. He go the
practice up to about $90k/pa and then he sold it to a established CPA
with the provision that he stay on two years for the experience
requirement.
