Question:
i recently started at a audio recording school in arizona and was
wondering what government recording jobs are out there. i would like
to find one for my internship at the end of my 18 month program so any
information would be helpful.
Answer:
-Well, if you are willing to go into the military, there are a lot of them.
Several of the military bands are really recruiting hard for PA guys and
recording folks. The pay is good, it's a steady job in a bad economy, and
there is an excellent promotion path. Plus you do get the opportunity to
get military electronics training which is another good thing.
Outside of the military it's catch as catch can and most of the stuff is
actually being contracted out by many agencies. Internships aren't so
easy to get although I'd start by talking to C-Span.
-I was a member of the Air Force band back in the 70's. Not a bad way to
have a steady living in the music biz with a retirement. I wish I had been
smart enough to use my evenings for the college courses on base and the
local universities instead of getting a buzz on with my buddies and rapping
about how we were going to kick the music biz in the butt when we got out of
the war (figure of speech - the closest I got to a weapon was in basic
training).
